Madeira Special Effect - Luna, Reflect, Highly Conductive Threads

Luna – Glow-in-the-Dark machine embroidery thread will charge when exposed to any light source and glow brightly in the dark.

Reflect – Reflective machine embroidery thread catches every beam of light and every camera flash for brilliant reflective effects.

HC – Highly Conductive thread can be stitched into fabric to create connectors for circuits, sensors and interactive electrical panels.

Luna Glow-in-the-dark #40 weight embroidery thread is activated by being exposed to bright light.

Luna has a soft and smooth feel. It is ideal for embroidered items to be used outdoors, on children's wear and Halloween costumes. Off-white thread appears to glow a greenish hue when seen in the dark. It is Oeko-Tex® certified.

For best results:

  • Use a #75/11 or #80/12 Needle
  • Set density at 4.0/.40 or 5.0/.50

This single-color thread reflects light in the dark and adds a surprise sparkle effect to every piece of embroidery. Its special structure consists of a polyester core wrapped in a polyamide foil and glass beads. REFLECT is durable and easy to run on industrial embroidery machines while using standard needle sizes. A great way to light up your designs and logos. It can be embroidered with designs digitized for 35 or 40 weight threads. Due to the structure of the surface the weight of the thread might vary slightly, therefore the design should be tested in advance.

For best results:

  • Use a #75/11 or #80/12 Needle
  • 75% polyester, 25% polymid
  • Set density at 4.0/.40

Highly Conductive Embroidery Thread can also be used as a sewing yarn and is available in 2 basic resistances per meter (100 and 300 ohm). Product oxidation and color changes do not harm conductivity. All electrical devices must be tested by the developer and have to conform to regulations and laws. Madeira USA only supplies a thread with the described properties and no electrical applications of any kind.
The washability of the finished garment depends on the electrical components, the way it has been embroidered and the washing process. For HC threads, use the following guidelines:
• Protect the circuitry with insulating thread or waterproof film
• Wash up to 30 °C/86 °F without bleaching or acid agents
• Always use a laundry bag

HC 12 is heavy fully silver-plated polyamide embroidery thread with resistance <100 Ohm/m. Suitable for robust circuitry and all applications where a very low resistance is required. Available in 1100 yard (1000 meter) cones for 100/16 needles.

Applications:
• Textile Heatings
• Smart gloves
• LED lighting, Signage, Security, Decorative, Fashion
• Sensors (Air quality, light, colors, humidity etc)
• Earphone connectors in the garment
• Medical Therapy sensors (heart rate, pulse, etc)
• Car seat heating
• Ambient lighting in home textiles

What do you need to use it?
• Knowledge in electrical engineering
• Knowledge and equipment for technical embroidery (recommended are ZSK and Tajima machines)
• Equipment to properly digitize electrical circuitry
• Additional components include: LED sequins, programmable chip and software etc.
Use HC thread for low voltage applications up to 9V only! We can only guarantee the properties of unused thread. Please make sure that your final applications are thoroughly tested and compliant to your local laws and regulations. We recommend to carefully test with prototypes to ensure that the thread and designs meet your technical and functional requirements.

HC 40 is heavy fully silver-plated polyamide embroidery thread with resistance <300 Ohm/m. The resistance of <300 Ohm/m can be varied by using conductive bobbin thread or varying the stitches. Product oxidation and color changes do not harm conductivity. It can be used as both embroidery and sewing thread. All electrical devices must be tested by the developer and have to conform to regulations and laws. Madeira USA supplies the thread only with the described properties and no electrical applications of any kind.

Specifications:

  • Highly Conductive #40 Embroidery Thread
  • Top thread tension: 200gf or more
  • #75/11 to #80/12 needles
  • 2700 yard cone
  • dtex 117/2
  • <300 ohm

Laundering considerations:
The laundering of the finished garment depends on the electrical components, the way it has been embroidered and the washing process.
Use the following guidelines for HC 40:

  • Protect the circuitry with insulating thread or waterproof film
  • Wash up to 30 °C/86 °F without bleaching or acid agents
  • Always use a laundry bag

Applications:

  • LED lighting, Signage, Security, Decorative, Fashion
  • Sensors (Air quality, light, colors, humidity etc)
  • Medical Therapy sensors (heart rate, pulse, etc)
  • Earphone connectors in the garment
  • Ambient lighting in home textiles
  • Car seat heating
  • Textile Heating
  • Smart gloves

What you need to know:

  • Embroidery and running stitches work best with this thread. Avoid satin stitches and instead create close lines of running stitches for more in depth designs
  • Knowledge in electrical engineering
  • Knowledge and equipment for technical embroidery (recommended machines: ZSK and Tajima)
  • Equipment to properly digitize electrical circuitry
  • Additional components include: LED sequins, programmable chip and software etc.
  • Use HC thread for low voltage applications up to 9V only!
